YOU
ARE NOT ALONE
According to the National Institute of Mental
Health, more than 30 million Americans need help dealing
with their problems.
Problems such as job worries, martial and family
problems, illness or injury, death of a loved one,
anxieties, loneliness, or depression. Millions more
suffer from stress-related illness.
Americans experience emotional problems more than any
other disabling condition.
Most major health problems are caused by stress or
high-risk lifestyle. Up to 80% of complaint to
physicians concerning colds, upset stomachs, back pain,
and fatigue stem from emotional stress and conflict.
As much as half the mortality rate from the leading
causes of death can be traced to behavior and lifestyle.
Stress is a product of our reactions to certain events
and pressures. Although moderate stress may help us
respond to critical situations, continuous stress can be
destructive.
Headaches and muscle tension, high blood pressure,
insomnia, ulcers, heart disease, and other serious
illnesses also have been linked to stress and
psychogenic causes. |
